About Centre

We live in an era where there is unprecedented increase in trade and commerce between countries. The power and importance of the countries today on the global platform lies in the economic strength of the country. Economics have great relevance in the life of a commoner too, be it a common man, professional, serviceman, business man or a small farmer they all have their own ideas about what ‘Economics’ is.

To accommodate such economic aspirations a country needs to have a proper set of laws and policies which can protect the economic system and provide appropriate mechanisms. Therefore, Law and Economics meshes up together so that we can have efficient laws that can govern the economic activities of the nation.

Therefore, we are delighted to present before you the Centre for Law and Economics (CLE), established under the aegis of Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur (M.P). The Centre was formed with the aim to promote research in the conjoined fields of Economics and Law, and to understand the interdependent relationship that exists between the condition of the Economy and the effect that it subsequently has on the economic laws of the country. It endeavors to provide solutions for the current issues pertaining to Law and Economics. The Centre is all set to become a goodwill in its respective fields.

Centre Objectives

  • International Webinar by Dr. Srinivas Yanamandra on Cryptocurrencies:- its legal status and future challenges in India on 03-December-2021.
  • International Webinar by Prof. Thomas S. Ullen on “Why lawyers should know about Law and Economics?” on 29 September 2021.About the event - The lecture started with Prof. Thomas S. Ullen introducing the field of Law and Economics. He explained how, before 1975, the interactions between the fields of Law and Economics were confined to topics like Taxation, Antitrust or Competition Law, Calculation of money damages, regulation of industries, and a few other fields. He further explained, that today it is not just Microeconomic theory that constitutes Law and Economics, but there is now an important and growing empirical component of Law and Economics.
  • National Webinar by Dr. Pankaj on "Constitutional Expectations and Economic Justice" on 09-SEPTEMBER-2021. About the event - The National Webinar began with the speaker explaining the bond of Constitution and Economics and how this relationship reserved a unique corner in the heart of our Constitution-makers. He explained how the Constitution of India embodies the concept of a welfare state and distinctly refers to economic justice. He explained that how the Preamble itself speaks of Justice – Social, Economic and Political.
  • National Webinar by Dr. Anil Dhagat on “The Role of Financial Institutions and Implementation of Economic Policy” on 07-SEPTEMBER-2021. About the event - The lecture started with the esteemed speaker, Dr. Anil Dhagat introducing us to the basics of the topic, that how financial establishments play a pivotal position in every economy. Financial Establishments are regulated through a significant authorities employer for banking and nonbanking financial establishments. These institutions assist in bridging the distance between idle financial savings and investment and its debtors, that is, from the net-savers to the net-borrowers.
